The minute I read the synopsis for Scythe, I immediately knew that I would love it. Scythe is filled with friendship, life challenges and making a decision to stay true to who you are or let a circumstance change you.

I haven’t read a YA dystopian for a really long time and I feel they can be hard to come by. Everyone on bookstagram kept saying how good of a book it was and it caught my interest. I really enjoyed the concept of the book and the characters involved. Shusterman did a great job at developing each character and was super creative on all that went into the book. It had a grim reaper feel to it, but maybe not so intense. I can’t imagine how it would feel to be chosen to die and knowing you’re about to die, instead of dying without knowing. It’s definitely a crazy, but so creative idea to have to think about.

I did give this book a three and a half stars only because it did get super slow in the middle of the book and didn’t really pick up until the end. It was hard to understand where some of the story correlated with the rest of the book. In addition to that, the ending stopped somewhat abruptly and it didn’t seem to smoothly transition to an end. At the same time, I was left wanting to know more, which is the whole point. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes the dystopian theme, just know it can get slow at times.

Side note, this was the book I did my first buddy read with @magicalreader and it was so fun!! I can’t wait to read the second bookand see what that one has in store!
