THE CARPENTER CONFESSIONS REVIEW:

The Dutch House surprised me through and through. When I first picked up this book, I had made a prediction that it was going to be slow because I wasn’t sure about the synopsis. Never should I make a prediction based on the synopsis again, kinda like don’t judge a book by its cover. I fell in love with this book! It has so many emotions taking you through different periods of life, you start looking back at your own and reminisce on the good and the bad memories. This book had me intrigued from the page and I’m so glad I picked it up because it’s a new favorite.

The Dutch House is different from other books I’ve read before. It was contemporary historical fiction, but it felt like a non-fiction memoir. I really loved how it took this man's life and took you for an emotional ride. The way Patchett wrote this book was incredible. She kept the story line together and had smooth transitioning. I never felt confused with the story and I wanted to keep turning it on because this story sucked me in and wanting more! This book actually felt like a true story and I was never left feeling like it’s just a story. It made me happy, sad, anger and so much more and I feel that is something a great book needs to have. I wished there was more to read, but what I was given was the best! This is my first five star read I had for a while and it definitely lived up to the rating.

If you’ve read this book, I think it would be cool to get Maeve’s perspective. I felt there was a big storyline that involved others, it would be fun to know their perspectives.

WHO I’D RECOMMEND TO:

Even though I loved this book, I can see where not everyone would. Anyone who likes memoirs would love this book because that’s what it felt like to me and if you like emotional  books, you would like this one too. I really loved this book therefore, I would tell everyone to at least give it a try!
