GOODREADS SYNOPSIS:

Chaol Westfall has always defined himself by his unwavering loyalty, his strength, and his position as the Captain of the Guard. But all of that has changed since the glass castle shattered, since his men were slaughtered, since the King of Adarlan spared him from a killing blow, but left his body broken.

His only shot at recovery lies with the legendary healers of the Torre Cesme in Antica--the stronghold of the southern continent's mighty empire. And with war looming over Dorian and Aelin back home, their survival might lie with Chaol and Nesryn convincing its rulers to ally with them.

But what they discover in Antica will change them both--and be more vital to saving Erilea than they could have imagined.

THE CARPENTER CONFESSIONS REVIEW:

When you read a long series, you tend to start feeling like the story will never end and gets dragged out. That is for me anyway. The Throne of Glass series is a long seven book series and usually follows Aelin Galathynius, but in Tower of Dawn, the story follows Chaol Westfall. The Empire of Storms and Tower of Dawn take place at the same time just in different places with different people. Tower of Dawn added information that made everything tie together and make for a better story.

The Throne of Glass series has been a favorite series for me, however after the fourth book, I don’t feel like the books have gotten any better. For me, the stories are staying status quo and the only thing in the book that is good are character development and little details to make other books make more sense. I don’t see the story growing and developing. I was hoping with Tower of Dawn, I would get a story that would then blend with the other books, but I felt it was its own story that had details of another story. Don’t get me wrong, I liked the book, I mean who doesn’t love Chaol! I just wasn’t a fan of how it related to the Throne of Glass series.

Now what I liked about Tower of Dawn is how I got to see Chaol as a character grow as a person and the challenges he faced. The story that Tower of Dawn followed was really good, it felt like it’s own book and I liked that because I was slightly bored with Aelin’s story the whole time. Also, I found a new character I love! This was definitely a four star because it just wasn’t amazing like some of the other Throne of Glass books(Queen of Shadows), but I still really enjoyed it and can’t wait to start Kingdom of Ash!!

WHO I’D RECOMMEND TO:

For this book, I only really can recommend it to people who are reading the series. I debated not reading this one due to it being only Chaol, but definitely read it. It has a lot of information that I think you’ll need to know for KoA.

Even though I can’t recommend this book specifically to anyone who hasn’t read up to this point, I would recommend starting the Throne of Glass Series if you haven’t already!
