Historical Fiction books are one of my favorite genres to read. They give you a piece of history and it gets turned into a story that changes your perspective. I’ve seen Valentine for a while, but never picked it up. I finally saw it available on Libby and thought I’d give it a try. I didn’t really know if I’d like it, it wasn’t a book I’d be immediately intrigued by. Once I started reading, I realized how good of a book it was and couldn’t stop turning the page.

Valentine wasn’t what I was expecting it to be, it was so much more. I loved every character that had a perspective and each one's role in each other’s lives. I thought it was going to be about Gloria and her kidnapping/rape, but it didn’t really focus on that. Being set in the 70’s, it gave a different perspective on how life was lived during that time. The struggles each woman had in the small Texas town and how they on their own and together got themselves through it. While I was confused at first, I ended up really liking the book and there was always a meaning behind each woman's story.

I didn't give this book a higher rating because even though I really liked it, I wish they did focus a little more on Gloria and what she went through as well as the trial. I felt like it only showed a sneak peak and then it trailed off until towards the end. It was also a little slow to get going, but once I got into it I couldn’t stop. I don’t have anything else wrong with it and what I did have a problem with, is more of a personal preference not a problem with the book itself.
